House Energy and Commerce Committee Vice Chair Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) is working with committee leaders in an effort to gather facts about the recently discovered issues with Volkswagen TDI diesel engines (sold from 2008-2015) that resulted in emissions levels exceeding state and federal limits throughout the United States. Earlier this week it was announced that the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee is expected to hold a hearing in the coming weeks looking into these allegations. Blackburn issued the following comment on the committee’s work:
“Volkswagen’s attempts to skirt environmental regulations are very troubling,” Blackburn said. “Consumers are understandably upset and that is why it is imperative Congress follow the facts to understand exactly what happened and why. Our investigation is just beginning, but we will be meeting with all parties involved to develop information and to begin to answer the American peoples’ questions.”
More information about the Oversight and Investigation Subcommittee’s hearing can be found here as it becomes available.
