Energy and Commerce Committee Vice Chair Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) issued the following statement regarding the latest data breach in which federal employee data was compromised in a cyber attack allegedly carried out by Chinese hackers.

“How many more data breaches will we have to suffer through before confronting this issue?  Rogue nations and other bad actors attack our systems in the government and private sector relentlessly,” Blackburn said. “FBI Director James Comey has even said: ‘There are two kinds of big companies in the United States. There are those who’ve been hacked by the Chinese, and those who don’t know they’ve been hacked by the Chinese.’ Cyberspace will be the battlefield of the 21st Century and it is not a war we can afford to lose. We must develop offensive and defensive capabilities to protect our data. The American people deserve to know that their personal information is safe and secure. This is exactly why I've been working with my colleagues in Congress on solutions to protect against attacks from cyber terrorists.”
