Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) issued the following statement on the Fiscal Year 2014 Budget Resolution
unveiled today by Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan.
“The best way to put America back on the path to prosperity is by passing a budget that balances within ten years. Our plan not only expands opportunity for Americans to succeed in the 21st Century, but also protects and strengthens Medicare for current and future generations. Furthermore, our budget requires the President to work with Congress on a plan to ensure Social Security remains solvent.”
“We can’t continue to spend money we don’t have on programs the American people don’t need or necessarily want. The first step is to repeal Obamacare and the burdens it is putting on American families and small businesses. For too long unelected bureaucrats in Washington have been wasting the hard-earned dollars of American taxpayers on waste, fraud and abuse. If we are going to put our economy back on a path to prosperity and create new jobs we must immediately restore sound fiscal responsibility.
“Chairman Ryan’s budget offers the only common sense solution that actually balances the budget. While I applaud the Senate for offering their first budget in four years, the fact remains that it simply never balances nor puts us on a path to prosperity. If the Senate continues to kick the fiscal can down the road Americans will face drastic changes to the programs they depend upon and receive fewer benefits.”
