I want to thank all of you who took time out of your busy day to attend one of yesterday’s tea parties. Ten years ago, Tennesseans took part in similar protests and stopped the imposition of a state income tax. Few people remember that those protests went on for nearly four years before we were assured victory. The situation in Washington today is as dire as it was in Nashville a decade ago. Your continued activism will put pressure on Washington to bring taxes under control and bring spending back in line. Preservation of hope and opportunity is our sacred trust and, together, we will keep fighting for it.
